Insomnia

To my husband, who makes my life worth living

Sleep, sleep, I want to sleep
Dear God, I prayed, my soul is yours to keep.
Your yoke is easy, make my burdens light,
And let me rest well for the night.
I closed my eyes, but sleep won't come.
I tossed and turned and counted sheep.
From my warm bed I rose, my nerves to calm.
A book I read,
Warm milk I drank,
Warm bath I took,
Then went to bed.
Clad with nightgown bright,
I turned off the light,
Again counted sheep
To make me sleep.
Sleep did come eventually,
But it's time to wake up
To another day.
